The one where I am one with the trees

Sorry this blog is a little delayed it has been a busy busy bee week. But also it has been the best week of all of the weeks! We finally got to stray from campus and be in nature and be awesome. Here's how the week went.

Camp Lodestar!! We went on our very first mini spike as a team(spike is a project when we go away from campus) The drive was about two hours and it was just lovely I say. I was so excited when we got to the camp because it was in the mountains and we were surrounded by giant trees (well they are giant if you are from Kansas)

The first night was a lot of fun. Not only did I get to spend time with my team, but the whole blue unit (blue teams 1-7) had a great time doing skits, playing games, and walking to an open field to "stargaze" even though there we not any stars out.
                                                                       "Stargazing"

                                                                           My Cabin
The next morning while our teams chain sawyers went to do their training (shout out to Page,Lucas, Ben, Kendra, and Jesse) the rest of us did a service project. It was pretty easy, all we did was pull/dig rocks out of a dirt road so cars can pull through. It was a rainy day so we got to look totally swaggy in our rain gear.

We spent the rest of the day doing team building and I personally loved it. We got to do low ropes courses and different stuff to build our trust and communication skills. Blue 5 did great, we did have some frustrating times but we pulled though and NAILED it!

Blue 5 has been having a great time together. Whether we go out to dinner together or just stay in the kitchen doing youtube karaoke, we always find a way to have fun together.
Dia De Los Muertos: I had my first ISP on Saturday and I loved it! An ISP is an individual service project and each AmeriCorps member is required to have 80 hours of them. I personally am shooting for 100. Anyways so the Dia De Los Muertos event was awesome! We got to walk around and check out everything which was cool. We manned an arts and crafts table, got to help guide the parade, and make tissue flowers which I am the WORST at! It was super great to immerse myself in another culture for the day.

This is Halloweeeeen. Unfortunately I did not take many pictures during Halloween because I was lazy but I was a flapper girl! I didn't do too much just hung out with my team and some other AmeriCorps members. I had a good time except a little peeved I didn't get very much candy.

So this will be our last week in Sacramento before we head to Pioneertown, California! I'm super pumped for spike but also sad to leave the good ol Sac town! I'll miss some of the awesome people I've met and I'll miss my roomates!! I'm ready to get out of training and into the field. Next time you see me, I will be in Pioneertown, California!! Thanks for reading and don't forget to serve others!!
